Warehouse Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Warehouse Manager oversees daily distribution center operations with a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, safety, and customer service. This role leads both office and warehouse associates, and owns inventory integrity, shipping and receiving workflows, and continuous improvement to ensure service levels and operational targets are met.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Warehouse operations

  • Manage daily warehouse functions including receiving, put away, picking, packing, shipping, and returns.
  • Plan labor and resources to meet service, productivity, and throughput targets.
  • Monitor workflow, address bottlenecks, and maintain consistent execution across shifts.
  • Ensure warehouse administrative activities are completed accurately and on time, including shipping documentation, receiving paperwork, and system transactions.

 

Inventory management and accuracy

  • Maintain accurate inventory through cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation activities.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies quickly to protect service levels and financial accuracy.
  • Optimize warehouse layout, slotting, and storage methods to improve speed, accuracy, and productivity.

 

Customer service and communication

  • Ensure timely, accurate order fulfillment to support internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Serve as a point of contact for escalations related to shipments, inventory availability, and order fulfillment.
  • Partner with Customer Service, Sales, Logistics, and the Regional Distribution Manager to resolve order issues promptly and prevent recurrence.
  • Proactively communicate delays, shortages, and operational constraints before they impact customers.

 

Safety, compliance, and facility standards

  • Promote and enforce a safety-first culture compliant with WorkSafe, OSHA, and WHMIS standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard free warehouse environment to support safe, error free work.
  • Ensure equipment is safely used, basic checks are completed, and maintenance needs are escalated and coordinated.

 

Leadership and team development

  • Lead, coach, and develop both office and warehouse associates, supervisors, and leads to achieve operational goals.
  • Execute staffing, scheduling, and labor planning requirements.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching tied to service metrics and operational KPIs.
  • Build a team culture of accountability, responsiveness, and professionalism.

 

Continuous improvement and performance management

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce cost, reduce error rates, and improve service outcomes.
  • Lead or participate in Lean and 5S initiatives and sustain gains through standard work.
  • Track and act on KPIs including order accuracy, fill rate, on time shipping, turnaround time, and inventory accuracy.
  • Analyze recurring service failures and implement corrective actions that prevent repeat issues.

 

Systems discipline and change readiness

  • Ensure accurate, timely transactions in ERP and WMS systems, including RF scanning and label printing processes.
  • Support system improvements, testing, and process adoption to enable stable execution.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in warehouse or wholesale distribution management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a team in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, and experience with ERP systems including OMS, WMS, and TMS.
